Evaluation of antipruritic drugs in normal volunteers

The antipruritic effect of trimeprazine and ergotamine was evaluated in medical students by use of the double‐blind technique. Itch was induced by Mucuna pmriens (cowage) ointment. Ergotamine tartrate was found to be ineffective, whereas no definite opinion could be formed regarding trimeprazine tartrate.
