HOSDES AND MARDES: ADVANCED CONCEPTS FOR INTEGRATED CAD-SYSTEMS

MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) has developed two software systems for the conceptual and preliminary design of ships with the possibility for the customer to add new programs to these systems. The first system (called HOSDES) has been realised for naval vessels of the frigate/destroyer type. A derative (MARDES), which is meant for merchant vessels has also been developed. Large parts of the two programs are identical e.g. the definition of the hull form and internal arrangement and also the calculations of hydrostatics, loading conditions, intact and damage stability, only the calculation programs differ for different ship types.
