Mercury removal from water by iron sulfide minerals, an electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) study

Electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy are used to study mercury adsorption on iron sulfides. The potential for eliminating both mercuric irons and elemental mercury atoms from polluted natural waters, industrial waste, and process waters is demonstrated. Mercury concentration in chlor-alkali effluent can be decreased to less than 100 ppt. (1 graph, 22 references, 3 tables)
