Dynamic security assessment for power systems: Research plan: Final report

This is the final report for Research Project 2496-1, ''Power System Dynamic Security Assessment: Research Plan.'' The objectives of the project are to identify how the electric utility industry can assess dynamic security in system operations, to identify analytical techniques required for assessment and enhancement of dynamic security, and to prepare a research and development plan for implementing a dynamic security assessment (DSA) method for daily system operations use. The emphasis in the project is to review available techniques in a comprehensive manner such that no potentially useful method is inadvertently overlooked. Included in this review are industry practices in DSA and existing needs of the power system operator for an on-line DSA system. Based on the results of the review, a comprehensive list of R and D needs is prepared and an R and D plan is proposed to meet the more important of those R and D needs. Because of its thorough literature survey and detailed review of industry practices, this report can also serve as a tutorial on dynamic security assessment. 60 refs., 20 figs.
