Energy saving by using photonic network

Demand to networks for energy saving, in addition to low cost and high reliability, is increasing more and more. Many efforts have been made reduce power consumption of each communication process layer. This paper discusses energy saving of low layers, especially by using photonic networking including transparent and translucent network technologies.
