Rheometry for process control

The uniform shape of a biscuit, the performance of a fuel oil in a burner and the ability to spin fibres from a polymer resin all rely on the ability to control rheological properties during processing. Moreover, rheological properties are useful as indicators of primary material characteristics; for example, the concentration of solvent in a paint, the particle size of solids in a slurry or the molecular weight of a polymer resin. As measures of the processability of a fluid or as indicators of a primary material characteristic, measurements of rheological properties are essential in the processing of a great variety of materials, including industrial chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, inks, paints, coatings, adhesives, foodstuffs, mineral slurries and polymers.
