Performance Analysis on Information Utility Function in Wireless Sensor Networks

The optimal tradeoff between the information gain and the energy saving is a hot issue in the field of wireless sensor networks, and through the information utility function(IUF) is one effective method of achieving the optimization. However, none all-round analysis of the characteristics and accurate choosing rules of the IUF has been given in previous work. The application of the dynamic collaborative algorithm in target tracking was set up as an example and some typical IUFs were selected to make analysis and simulation using the algorithm, and a guide for optimal parameter design,an all-round evaluation of its performance and an analysis of its robustness were provided by the evaluation indexes,as well as its choosing rules differing with application backgrounds, which is of great importance for improving the integral optimization of the network performance.
