Semiclassical and quantum-electrodynamical approaches in nonrelativistic radiation theory

Abstract Theoretical aspects of the interaction of atoms with the radiation field are reviewed with emphasis on those features of the interaction requiring field quantization. The approach is nonrelativistic, with special attention given to the theory of spontaneous emission.
