Discriminant Analysis of Type A/Type B Subjects on the California Psychological Inventory

This study was designed to investigate the relationship between Type A (coronary-prone) behavior and the personality variables represented by the California Psychological Inventory (CPI). College students were screened for Type A behavior via the Jenkins Activity Survey (JAS) (Form T) A top- and bottom-third split was used to identify students as Type A or-Type B (its opposite). A total of 60 Type As and 59 Type Bs were identified. These students were then administered the CPI. In a discriminant analysis, six scales were found to make significant contributions to group discrimination The derived function correctly identified 76.5% of the subjects. The significant discriminating scales were in accord with the previous research This research suggests that there is a significant relation ship between Type A behavior and personality variables, especially when considered multivariately.
