A substation location and capacity planning method based on improved particle swarm optimization

An improved particle swarm method is presented to handle the substation optimal location and capacity problem. In order to make the planned substation near the load center, a load density function is used to control the particles' initial value. To avoid the problem that the final optimal scheme often can not meet practical needs, several optimal schemes are saved as candidates, and the final scheme of objective function can be worked out by experts from a scheme decision table. This method provides a new way for multi-substation location and capacity planning in local network. The promising testing results on a real power system proved that the proposed model is feasible and efficient. (6 pages)
