Home Automation Architecture for Comfort, Security, and Resource Savings

Abstract In this chapter, we present an architecture for home automation that intends to cover these aspects in modern houses. The architecture comprises a coordinator node and several remote nodes communicating with Zigbee. Each remote node is responsible for controlling different activities. A friendly interface is used to communicate with the end user. We conducted several tests in the laboratory and the results show that the inhabitants can be comfortable in the house, live without worries of security, and save water and energy resources. Engineering and computer science topics were involved in the development of the project.
