Aggregative Resource Topology Generator on Internet-scale Computational Grids

In this paper, a novel Internet-scale grid resource topology generator is proposed. There are two major differences between existing research and ours. The first is the definition of grid resource model and the second is the aggregative attribute of computational resources. To make the grid resource model more realistic, we integrate the existing Internet-like network and the aggregative property of computational resources in the grid environment. Our contributions are as follows. First, the Internet-scale grid resource model is established for more accurate simulation. Second, the aggregative characteristic of resources in the realistic grid environment is presented by the concept of region. Finally, we develop the generating algorithm of grid resource topology with the proposed resource attributes and aggregative characteristics. The proposed algorithm has been adopted in a resource topology generator. The grid resource topology is useful, and it can be integrated with existing mature grid simulators to perform numerous measurements. The experimental results validate the accuracy of the generator. The impacts of some critical model parameters are analyzed and discussed. A representative example of the grid resource topologies is demonstrated visually with a primitive plotter. Keyword: grid, resource topology, aggregative.
