In this study, thermal-hydraulic characteristics of spent fuel pools are investigated by using CFD and MARS-KS. A Multi-D input-deck of MARS-KS and a CFD model are developed to analyze the three-dimensional flow and heat removal capacity in the spent fuel pool. This study comparatively evaluated the results of CFD and multi-D analysis of MARS-KS through the thermal-hydraulic analysis of spent fuel pool with various flow rate of cooling system. As a result, both analysis results of MARS-KS and CFD correspond to each other, in the bulk mean temperature and velocity distribution. The study also shows that the current configuration has enough cooling capability, although flow rate in the cooling system is reduced by 20%. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as important data for the transient analysis of spent fuel pool in case of the loss of off-site power.
