LIFE CYCLE COSTING OF ELECTRICAL MOTORS IN THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY

This report attempts to decide if the life cycle costing of high efficiency electric motors is less than standard electrical motors when used in the Royal Australian Navy operational environment. High efficiency motors are from 1% to 6% more efficient for the same power output and physical size but cost more to purchase. With the high cost of electricity this small difference in efficiency often means it is more cost effective to invest money in purchasing high efficiency motors. This conclusion is supported in the report.
