Flow measurements in open irrigation channels

There are two principal methods for measuring flow in irrigation systems: velocity-area methods and hydraulic methods. Each method has its own characteristic flow sensor. It is shown how integrating all parts of a flowmeter into one element allows it to be installed in virtually any channel, natural or artificial. The most important feature of such a design is that it can accurately measure non-axis-symmetrical flows.
