Hologram image storage in the methyl-red doped nematic liquid crystal films

In this paper, the nematic liquid crystal 5CB doped with 1wt% Methyl-Red was prepared. Due to optical excitation, cis-trans isomerous effect of Methyl-Red depended on the polarization direction of the incident light, so we chose Ar+ laser as grating recording lights. When the sample thickness is 32&mgr;m, the angle between two incident beams is 2°, the two incident beams with the equal intensity is 85mW/cm2, ambient temperature is 22°C, and He-Ne laser with polarization direction normal to the dirction of grating wave vector as read-out light, the first order diffraction efficiencies of two-wave coupling were measured. The hologram images were storage and reconstruction in the samples. The theoretical analysis is given to the experimental results.
