Linear predictive transmitter diversity for microcellular TDMA/TDD mobile radio system

Linear predictive transmitter diversity (LPTD) and higher order prediction schemes are investigated. The average bit error rate of /spl pi//4-shift quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) is calculated for the microcellular mobile radio environment. The base station uses LPTD to predict the received signal strength at the portable station using the measurement values of signals received at the base station. LPTD offers the same performance as reception diversity at the portable station for normalized maximum Doppler frequencies (f/sub D/T) less than 0.1. Higher order prediction is the best technique to improve the transmission quality. Taking into account implementation complexity, the optimum order of prediction is three.
