A stochastic model for daily streamflow

Abstract A model for the description and generation of samples for daily streamflow is developed. The basic assumption is that the rising and falling limbs of hydrographs are to be modeled separately due to the fact that they translate different physical processes. The rising limb is mostly due to factors external to the watershed. It can be modeled similarly for precipitation. On the other hand, the falling limb is mostly governed by the emptying-water from the watershed. The model assumes the conceptual representation of the watershed as two linear reservoirs. Any sequence of recession discharge is then a stochastic output from these two reservoirs. The model was tested for a case study and results are satisfactory.
