The Sounds of Infancy

The infant's cry is an imperative signal which is related to the life‐sustaining functions of respiration and nutrition. The relatively new field of study of the infant cry is surveyed in this paper in order to demonstrate what has been accomplished so far, and to consider what future study might accomplish.
