Brain damage caused by severe fetomaternal hemorrhage

diffusion imaging between 24 h and 5 days is preferred. Our observations support this view but further studies are needed to more accurately define the spectrum of insults in PSI. In conclusion, the DWI sequence is a fast and sensitive method for the detection of PSI within a few days after birth. Using DWI, we could detect ischemic changes before they were evident on conventional MRI. The combination of both an initial DWI sequence and a follow-up conventional MRI is useful to follow the clinical time course in PSI.
