Electrical capacitance tomography

Multiphase flow systems are a critical element of many industrial processes as they constitute the medium through which basic ingredients are processed to yield the final product(s). Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is an electric sensing modality that easily meets the high-speed demands of multiphase flow real-time imaging. Specific applications of ECT include fluidized beds, circulating fluidized beds, pneumatic conveying systems, bubbling beds, trickle beds, and combustion. Favorable features of ECT sensors for these applications are the low-profile and the noninvasive nature of the sensing apparatus, the fast imaging speed, safety, ease of use, sensor flexibility for fitting around virtually any vessel geometry, and relatively low complexity and low cost.
