Satellite radio technology

The major technology challenge in constructing geosynchronous spacecraft which provide digital radio broadcasting (DKB) from satellites directly to mobile users is the design of the high power transmitter. Applications have been made to the FCC for constructing such satellites which would provide DRB sendee in the United States. The various alternative designs of the spacecraft transmitters are described and the advantages and difficulties of each are presented. Two of these are concluded to be preferable for current implementation.
