"Drawing" upconversion nanophosphors into water through host-guest interaction.

Based on the self-assembly of beta-cyclodextrin and adamantaneacetic acid, a simple and efficient strategy was developed to convert hydrophobic upconversion nanophosphors to biocompatible ones for bioimaging applications.
