Versatile Interactive Digital Simulator Based on EMTP for AC/DC Power System Trasient Studies

A new approach has been developed to digitally model the transient response of ac/dc power systems to disturbances. The digital simulator is comprised of the widely available Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP) on a mainframe computer operating in parallel with a microcomputer containing a detailed converter control model and extensive user-interactive capability. A description of the simulator is provided, and examples are given to demonstrate its versatility and to emphasize the importance of detailed control modeling.
