Investigation of health risk behavior among college students in Zhejiang and Guangxi areas

Objective To understand the status and differences of health risk behavior among college students between developed regions and less developed regions. Methods A random sampling was conducted with an anonymous questionnaire among university students,769 from Zhejiang Province,810 from Guangxi. Results The health risk behaviors happening rate of the students was between 3.7% and 84.7%. Among them,the rate of alcohol drinking(84.7%) behavior was the highest. The other behaviors were taking drugs without doctor' instruments(82.2%),sleeping less than 7 hours(65.9%),smoking(16.1%) in which 31.7% was man. 19.7% had sex and 30.7% was man. Net play was the most favourate entertainment,39.8% was man and 20.0% was woman. The incidence of most risk behaviors in the male students was higher than the female students,and students from Guangxi higher than those from Zhejiang,high grades was higher than low grades. Conclusion The health risk behaviors among university students were general,especially in the male students,and it had a tendency of getting worse in the higher grades. There was a significant difference in the health risk behaviors among university students from the developed areas and the less developed areas. Universities should target the situation and traits of the health risk behaviors among university students to make educational and behavioral intervention.
