Joint Access Point Beamforming and Switch On/Off Scheme for Energy Efficient Cell-Free mmWave massive MIMO

This paper studies a method for selectively switching access points (APs) on/off to reduce network power consumption by a plurality of distributed APs in a millimeter wave cell-free massive MIMO network, which has the purpose of providing high-quality uniform services regardless of user's location. In order to improve energy efficiency, the RF beamforming and on/off switching in distributed APs are jointly designed. The numerical results confirm that the proposed joint design is superior to the existing methods.
