Experimental investigation of a short-stroke device for deep drawing

Abstract A novel hydraulic short-stroke device for deep drawing has been designed, fabricated and tested. This device automatically applies the blank-holding force, which is proportional to the punch force. During drawing tests, the hydraulic pressure in the system and the punch stroke were measured. Using the measured pressure, the areas of the cross-sections of the punch and blank-holder pistons and the spring constants, the punch force and the blank-holder force were calculated at several values of the punch stroke. Experiments were conducted with aluminium and copper blanks using several lubricants, the results being presented in the paper.
