If I had any complaint about Fade to Gray, it would be that, at times, Shary and McVittie seem to let themselves off the hook of doing deeper critical analysis. In chapter five, Shary laments that “it is heartening that Hollywood has been increasing that quantity of elder romances, but the quality of those romantic depictions deserves further scrutiny by the elder audience” (p. 173).
