SOME GRID REFINEMENT SCHEMES FOR HYPERBOLIC EQUATIONS WITH PIECEWISE CONSTANT COEFFICIENTS

Discontinuities in the coefficients of hyperbolic equations occur both naturally and artificially and must be treated in numerical schemes. Schemes for handling these discontinuities are derived. An interesting stability result is derived and the schemes are shown to be exact under certain restric- tions.
