Low-power, multi-channel LED driver for portable fNIRS applications

This paper presents a low-power multi-channel light-emitting diode (LED) driver designed in IBM's 0.13 μm BiCMOS technology for potential application in implementing portable continuous-wave (CW) functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) systems. The low-power low dropout regulator (LDO) is designed to provide each LED with 20 mA constant current. A digitally controlled protection circuit is included to increase the overall reliability of the system. With power supply of 1.6 V, the circuit consumes 32.05 mW.
