Information Retrieval with Probabilistic Datalog

The probabilistic logical approach in Information Retrieval (IR) describes the retrieval process as the computation of the probability P(d → q) that a document d implies a query q. Why do we apply this approach in IR? Because it captures the intrinsic uncertainty of knowledge, it combines the logical view of databases with IR applications, and it allows for a logic-based description of documents, queries, and the process of retrieval. Thus, we gain a framework that promises to be suitable for advanced IR applications such as hypermedia IR.
