Exobiology: approaches to life beyond the earth.

It is a privilege to discuss some basic problems in biology with an audience whose special concern is for the recent striking advances in the physics of the earth in the solar system. However, many of us are looking forward to the close investigation of the planets, and few inquisitive minds can fail to be intrigued by what these studies will tell of the cosmic distribution of life.
