Synchronous Generator Fault Investigation by Experimental and Finite-Element Procedures

The finite-element calculations and experimental measurements are employed in this paper to detect faults in a two-pole synchronous generator. A special benchmark constructed for this study allows imposing short circuits in the rotor winding, and it is used to verify the numerical results. The air-gap magnetic field can be detected by means of sensors placed inside the machine, and it can be calculated by the finite-element method (FEM) as well.
