Spin Moment of SmFe $_{7}$ Observed by Magnetic Compton Scattering

Magnetism of SmFe<sub>7</sub> was studied by magnetic Compton scattering experiment with the synchrotron radiation along with those of SmFe <i>x</i>(<i>x</i> = 2, 3) and Sm <sub>6</sub>Fe <sub>23</sub>. Spin moment and orbital moment for SmFe<sub>7</sub> were 6.60, and 7.20 mu<i>B</i> /f.u., respectively. The magnetic Compton profile revealed that the spin moment of SmFe<sub>7</sub> compounds consists of negative Sm moment and positive Fe moment. The comparison to other Sm-Fe crystals shows that the spin, orbital, and total moments increase linearly against a Fe/Sm ratio.
