Crystals of 1,4-benzenediammonium tetrachlorocadmate(II), (C6H10N2)[CdCl4], contain two-dimensional anionic sheets in which each CdCl6 octahedron shares four corners with adjacent octahedra {i.e. catena - poly [1,4-benzenediammonium dichlorocadmium-di-μ-chloro(2-)]}. Layers of organic diammonium cations are intercalated between the metal–halogen sheets.
