FORCES ON ARRAY OF BI-PILE IN IRREGULAR WAVES

The total transverse forces on each of two piles in a side-by-side arrangement and a tandem arrangement were experimentally investigated in irregular waves and the total in-line wave forces measured simultaneously. The statistical and spectral characteristics of the transverse forces were analysed. The ratio of the transverse force on each pile in group to that on a single pile was defined as the transverse grouping-pile factor KCL. Both the transverse coefficients CLC and the KCL for each pile in array was varied with the relative pile distance and KC number and their relationships are presented in the paper. The ratio of the resultant wave force on in-line forces and transverse force to the in-line force and the variation of the resultant coefficient were also investigated.
