A simple method for satisfying emission masks in UWB transmitters with multiple PRFs

This paper proposes a simple, low cost method of maintaining the output transmission levels of a UWB pulse generator within a stipulated emission mask at different Pulse Repetition Frequencies (PRFs). The circuit is realized using the Step Recovery Diode (SRD) as the pulse generator besides other general components and digital logic circuits. The pulse generator consists of 3 major sections, a selectable circuit for sources having different power density, an impulse generator using a step recovery diode and a band pass filter to shape the power spectral density to fit within the UWB emission mask. It is shown that the same circuit can be used to generate pulses at different PRFs (1 MHz and 20 MHz) while meeting the UWB emission mask in frequency domain.
