Simple sufficient conditions for non-minimum-phase systems are derived using the fundamental theorem of algebra. It is shown that the unstable poles or zeros of a control system can be tested directly from the coefficients of the characteristic polynomials without any calculation. This criterion is useful for the computer-aided design of control systems.
