A 2.4-GHz CMOS monolithic transceiver front-end for IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN applications

A 2.4-GHz CMOS monolithic transceiver front-end for IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN applications is presented. The Rx front-end consists of low noise amplifier (LNA) and down-converter, and the Tx front-end consists of up-converter and pre-amplifier. Their input/output impedances are all on-chip matched to 50 O except the down-converter which has open-drain outputs. When the LNA and the down-converter are directly connected, the measured noise figure is 5.2 dB, the measured available power gain is 12.5 dB, the input 1 dB compression point (ICP) is -18 dBm and the third-order input intercept point (IIP3) is -7 dBm. The receiver front-end draws 13.6 mA from the 1.8V power supply. When the up-converter and pre-amplifier are directly connected, the measured noise figure is 12.4 dB, the power gain is 23.8 dB, the output 1 dB compression point (OCP) is 1.5 dBm, and the third-order output intercept point (OIP3) is 16 dBm. The transmitter consumes 27.6 mA from the 1.8V power supply.
