Small antenna over AMC surface with/out vias

An electrically small split ring antenna is integrated with two miniaturised artificial magnetic conductors to form conformal platform tolerant antennas. Both the antenna and the AMCs utilise loading by discrete, lumped circuit elements. The two AMCs have identical designs but one of them has vias connecting from the ground plane to the surface patches. The performance of the antenna over AMCs with and without vias will be studied and the results will be discussed.
