Lossy compression of multichannel ECG based on 2-D DCT and pre-processing

We propose and analyze a novel efficient technique for lossy compression of multichannel ECG records that provides a reasonable trade-off between distortions introduced and compression ratio provided. This technique exploits inter-channel correlation of signals in cardio-complex leads by means of using a 2-D DCT and special operations of data pre-processing that improve compression performance. Real practical examples proving the proposed coder efficiency are presented.
