Application of the Smart Materials in the Haptics

Electrorheological(ER) fluids and magnetorheological(MR) fluids are novel smart materials that response to an applied electric/magnetic fields with a change in rheological behavior from that of Newton to "half-solid" within several msecs.The properties of ERFs/MRFs are presented.The principle,structure and applications of some haptic system based on ERFs/MRFs are discussed.At last,the advantages and disadvantages of those devices are presented,and applications in the future are forecasted.
