A Dynamic Simulation Program with Object-oriented Formulation for Absorption Chillers (Simulation Method and Modeling)

A new dynamic simulation program for predicting the precise transient behavior of absorption chiller cycles has been developed. This program combines an object-oriented formulation and a parallel processing program architecture for treating a chiller with an arbitrary structure. A new algorithm with highly stable, fast and accurate computational characteristics was devised for calculating the flow rate in a solution circulation line. In this calculation, the algorithm takes into account the pump characteristics and the liquid level control by float valve. The simulated results on an absorption chiller cycle sufficiently agree with the measured behavior of an actual machine from start up to cool down. This agreement means that the developed simulation program is an effective tool for predicting the precise dynamic behavior of various types of absorption chiller cycles.
