This paper presents issues and results in the performance improvement of CO₂ system with a twin rotary compressor. The cooling performance of a transcritical CO₂ cycle can be dramatically improved by decreasing outlet temperature of the gascooler. In this study, the cycle performance was measured by applying an internal heat exchanger and water heater to the CO₂ cycle. Moreover, the cooling performance of the CO₂ cycle was analyzed by varying refrigerant charge amount, compressor frequency, and EEV opening. The application of the water heater improved the cooling performance of the CO₂ cycle by 82.1%, and the use of the internal heat exchanger improved it by 17.5% over the basic cycle.
