Sand accumulation around porous fences

Abstract A computer model is developed to calculate the average monthly and annual rates of potential sand drift over a specific study area. The basic formula adopted for calculating potential sand drift due to wind blowing in a certain direction, speed and height above the drifted surface is given by Bagnold (1936, 1954). The accumulated sand profiles with time, around a porous fence, are calculated for prevailing wind direction and multi-wind directions. Results of sand accumulation using multi-wind directions provided shorter elapsed time to fill the fence to its maximum capacity and a deposition of sand around the fence in the windward and leeward directions. Results of sand accumulation using the prevailing wind direction provided longer elapsed time to fill the fence and serious erosion in the leeward direction of the fence.
