Space Conditioning Load Under Spot or Time of Day Pricing

Electricity prices which vary during a 24 hour period enable custamers to optimize their use of electricity for space conditioning by exploiting the natural thermal storage inherent in a building. Explicit formulae for strategies and dollar savings - inside temperature deviations tradeoffs are provided. Relative impacts of outside temperature variations, price variations, and building parameters reveal interesting separatims of phenomena. A simple screening model is provided along with aggregate formulae and camparisons of spot pricing with prespecified time of day pricing.
