Chromium recovery from chrome tan wastewater

Tanneries engaged in chrome tanning operations produced wastewater containing 500 to 6000 mg/L trivalent chromium. This chromium poses several environmental; and ecological problems to the aquatic environment. Chromium is an expensive metal and its recovery from chrome tan wastewater and its reuse in subsequent taning operations is advisable. This helps in saving in the cost of chrome base or chromium sulphate used in subsequent tanning operation. This paper deals with chromium removal and recovery of chromium from chrome tan wastewater and cost economics of the process.
