SUMMARY There is a need for an accurate, rapid, and economical method of mapping areas burnt in low-intensity prescribed burning operations. A trial of two methods using large-scale colour aerial photographs is described. Boundaries of areas burnt were mapped on 1:15 000 scale colour transparencies with 83 per cent accuracy at sample points for a cost of $0.27/ha; and on a combination of 1:15 000 and 1:2500 scale colour transparencies with 93 per cent accuracy at sample points for a cost of $0.39/ha.
