The application of software-radio in a point-to-point radio link receiver

The large demand for radio microwave communication systems in recent years has led to the development of low-cost, high performance transceivers. To date, most narrowband radio microwave link design has relied on analog components for channel tuning and gain control. The drifts within analog components, however, necessitate frequent tuning throughout the lifetime of the equipment. This drawback can be significantly mitigated by adopting digital techniques to carry out the relevant functions. This paper presents the design of a digital software system to replace functions traditionally implemented using analog components and illustrates, through measurement results, the feasibility of the system.
