A BIG 'AYE'

This article relates how advances in technology, particularly communications media and the use of Internet-based software, are making temporary traffic management in work zones much easier to implement. Focus is on the Big I reconstruction project in New Mexico where CCTV surveillance cameras, modular message signs, and portable traffic management systems are being used to provide work zone safety incident management, and motorist information. The article also describes the Construction Traffic Management Center (CTMC) which monitors the construction zone and operates the dynamic message signs and the traffic information Web site.
